Holiday Pay while on Furlough
If one of your staff members has holiday in a furlough period and this holiday hasn’t been cancelled then you have to follow a specific set of guidance.
If you have employees who are furloughed but have holiday already booked which they have not cancelled you are obliged to pay additional amounts over the grant. So you can claim back the 80% of the salary, applicable National Insurance and Pension for the worker ‘on holiday’ but you will have to make up the pay to the employees normal holiday pay.
The employer will have the flexibility to restrict when leave can be taken if there is a business need. This applies for both the furlough period and the recovery period.
